Darlington Tradition or the Almighty Dollar? May 9, 2008 Jack Lewis - SCR Since the track hosted its first NASCAR race in 1950, Darlington Raceway has hosted at least one race in early September, on the Labor Day holiday weekend. This was until 2004, when the sport put money in front of tradition and dropped one of Darlington's two races it hosted per year, and moved its solo date to Mother's Day weekend. CONTINUED
