Bumper Tag Continues Between Kenseth and Gordon

Chicagoland is not the most entertaining racetrack on the NASCAR circuit, but controversy did get the best of last weekend's race in Illinois.

Enter Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon. Both had a run in with each other at Bristol back in March of this year, but no one expected a Chicagoland bump as payback going into the week. With just a handful of laps to go, Kenseth who was leading the event got just a slight nudge from Jeff Gordon in turn two. That move would turn the lead over to Gordon and he didn't relinquish it after the fact. As Jeff went on to win his second race of the year and collected his 75th career victory in the process.

After winnning the race, fans threw stuff at Gordon's car. Sorry for those who think that kind of retaliation is acceptable. I have said it before and I will say it again.....Nobody should throw anything onto the track. Anyhow, Gordon wasn't liked that well in Chicago after forgetting the words to "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," at Wrigley Field last year.

However, I don't believe that Gordon intentionally wrecked Matt Kenseth, but only the two of them really know what the deal is.  The reason being is due to seeing how good Gordon's car was through the middle of the corner during the entire race. "I mean, if I wanted to just wreck him, I could have done it on that restart because I easily was inside of him, and he ran me all the way down to the apron, and our bumpers touched and he was getting ready to spin out because he just kept going, and I actually checked up to keep from wrecking him," stated Gordon. Kenseth had quite a different view though "In two laps, he could have passed me clean," Kenseth said. "He just dumped me."

As for Chip Ganassi Racing, Juan Montoya is leaving F1 to go to NASCAR in 2007. Ganassi signed Montoya Sunday to replace Casey Mears in the No.42 Havoline Dodge for 2007. In order to gain more fans from overseas, NASCAR thinks that this is a good move to see. Montoya is a proven open wheel driver, but as to how long it will take him to get used to a stock car, I can't answer that one. Although, Montoya did talk about just that very topic on Sunday. "It’s going to take some time. It’s a challenge and that’s one of the reasons to do it. It’s a great challenge and there are great drivers out here," said Juan.

Michael Waltrip Racing of 2007 won't have to worry about finding a sponsor for Dale Jarrett as that issue has already been resolved. Jarrett's current sponsor, UPS, has agreed to come with Jarrett in 2007. Considering that UPS is battling with Fed Ex on the track, it is rather stunning that they would leave Robert Yates Racing and go with Jarrett. You would figure that UPS would want a young guy to drive their car, but UPS is going to remain loyal to Jarrett.

The last thing to mention is that a Jerry Nadeau return is in the works. He says that he would like to start racing again, even without some feeling in the left side of his body. Jerry hopes to start that return late this year or early in 2007. As always, I for one would like to see that come back and wish him luck on that situation.
