South Boston, VA – With the winds up and the skies open Danny Abold waited out a three hour rain delay and riding around for 60 laps under caution to dry the track, before the skies opened up again giving Abold his first career Hooters Pro Cup Series win.

Abold used pit strategy or lack there of by not coming in under an early caution, when all the leaders pitted took the lead and never looked back to pick up the win.

“There are three things you got to have in racing. You gotta have luck, experience and hard work,” said Abold after the win. “I got the luck tonight, my crew chief [Keith Hinkein] has all the experience in the world and all my crew guys put in the hard work to put me where I was when the rain came.”

Abold held the lead from the time he tool it on lap 17 until the checkered flag flew on lap 161. In that time he waited out a three hour rain delay and a hard charging Benny Gordon, Gordon also set on the pole for the race.

“I was too patient with [Abold] because I knew he still had to pit,” said Gordon, driver of the No. 66n Samuel Metals Ford. “I made a couple of moves on him, but he didn’t give me any room. I figured when he had to pit that I would get the lead and take off.”

The red flag came out on lap 102 for rain and the teams parked their cars for the next three hours. As the skies cleared the cars were brought back out on the track under caution to help dry the track. The field rode around under caution until lap 161 when the skies opened again and series officials called the race.

“It was about a 50/50 deal” said Abold when asked about if he was hoping if it would rain. “If you can get it easy sometime you have got to take it that way too, I am not going to say no but I am not going to say yes.”

Finishing third behind Abold and Gordon was rookie Mikey Kile he was followed by Mike Hampton, who had a career best fourth place finish and jay Fogleman rounded out the top five.

Derrick Kelley, Brandon Ward, Derek Kale, Gary St. Amant and Tim Bainey Jr. rounded out the top 10.
