Impressive/Unimpressive: The Texas Two-Step

April 7, 2008

Joe Jacobs – SCR

Impressive:

Carl Edwards: Nice dominating performance Sunday and I bet the oil cooler lid is nice and tight on the car this week. Looks like Roush Fenway Racing is going to be kings of the 1.5 mile tracks this year… so expect more back flips.

NASCAR: Not many times do they get in the impressive column, but after Michael McDowell’s crash on Friday we have seen why the car of today was so important. The sport will never be 100 percent safe but NASCAR is better than it was 8 years ago.

Ryan Newman: Daytona 500 Champion has had a rough go since Daytona. A nice run today, maybe they can build on that and get some momentum.

Yates Racing: No sponsors but running well, finished 15th and 18th Sunday. When the economy gets better a sponsor will return. Perhaps Jack Roush will loan Doug Yates some money so he can have his 7-car team on the track to fight the evil Toyota demon he hates so much.

Toyota: Ten cars in the race Sunday, last year’s race had 3. The addition of Joe Gibbs Racing has been great but all the other Toyota teams are doing better as well. Brian Vickers and Team Red Bull will be a factor for a win before the year is out.

Unimpressive:

Juan Pablo Montoya: Once again he interfered in the race and almost took out then leader Matt Kenseth. He might have been only a lap down but he should know the limitations of his car and move accordingly. Perhaps Kenseth will get some payback next week in Phoenix.

Larry McReynolds: It is not up to you to tell us that Goodyear is a great company. The tire was good Sunday but probably millions at home and Mike Joy pointed out it was a different tire. There were no problems because Goodyear came with a better tire. Fans don’t care if you’re getting a fat check from Goodyear but don’t let it interfere with your duties to call a race.

Kyle Petty: I have never heard of the Petty Clan infighting before. Who said what and who asked whom to get out of the No. 45 car might not ever be known? But it might be in the Petty’s best interest to stop fighting each other and start looking for a sponsor and finding a driver for the 43. You better sign Bobby Labonte or you will have two cars missing the race instead of one.

NASCAR: 40 laps to go and a phantom debris caution (cameras never showed the debris, but Carl Edwards did have an 8 second lead at the time), just thought I would point that out.
