Impressive/Unimpressive: Sunny California?

February 27, 2008

Joe Jacobs – SCR

Impressive:

Carl Edwards: Well it was a nice run at a nice Roush racetrack. If they can keep it up at non-Roush racetracks, Edwards could dominate like he did the Nationwide series last year. The Ford camp does not have anything to worry about if they keep running like that.

Tony Stewart: He might not be happy about finishing 7th on Sunday or Monday and being third in the points but anyone else would be. Things are looking good for his Toyota team and will probably only get better.

Kyle Busch: It’s only two races in to the season and with his new Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) team but Busch leads two out of the three series in points, that’s impressive. He wants to win in his hometown and like any other week he will do anything to win. This might be the week that defines his entire year. If he tries too hard and loses but his attitude is good in the post race interview then watch out because he may have overcome his childish ways.

Unimpressive:

NASCAR: The penalty on Robby Gordon after Daytona is ridiculous. It seems that NASCAR just wants to keep someone down who is not in the good ole boy system. They want to keep down someone who is not a poster child and wants to do his own thing. Gordon fits that perfectly as he races his own way and he is someone who has a personality. I have already signed the petition and you should too.

NASCAR Again: I know the Los Angeles market is supposed to be great for the sport. But the fan base in that one area does not add up to the total on the entire east coast. The late race starts are one thing, but making east coast fans wait until 2 a.m. est. before canceling the race is horrendous. NASCAR you should think better of your fans not only the ones who go to the race but the ones who watch on TV also. The worst part though is while waiting until 2 a.m. I think about and realize that the California Speedway has not had a sell out since they received a second date. Oh and since I failed to mention it earlier it made a really long day for the drivers.

NASCAR… Third Time is a Char: I know I am beating a dead horse but starting the race in the first place was a bad decision. But it only got worse as Sunday wore on. Waiting until after two crashes happened, one that caused a car to flip over and another to catch on fire and maybe worst of all for fans taking out the all mighty son Dale Earnhardt Jr. was bad for ratings, and the people in attendance. Simply put when Jr. is out so are his fans.

Just a  Note: The weather in North Carolina on Saturday and Sunday was cloudy cool but good for racing, however the North Carolina Motor speedway was silent. The only difference between North Carolina Speedway and the California Speedway was the one in California was not only quiet but also wet.
