Impressive/Unimpressive: 50 Years of the Daytona 500

February 19, 2008

Joe Jacobs - SCR

Impressive:

Ryan Newman: Under the radar, and a good attitude paid off. Newman has always been fast on one lap and he showed he could run good for a whole race and be there when it paid off. It was an upset for the ages. Sometimes unexpected winners are always exciting.

Kyle Busch: In his first point’s race with Joe Gibbs Racing, he showed that he still has the talent and the skill that Rick Hendrick threw away for Dale Earnhardt Jr. He had the best car Sunday and that could be a theme in this year.

Robby Gordon: Robby struggled all week, was never on TV. I would not have known he was even in the race if not for the starting line upon TV. But finishing in the top 10 after changing manufacturers three weeks ago is very impressive.

ESPN: I must give ESPN credit they did make the change I have been asking for this since last year. Putting Rusty Wallace in the pits and taking him off TV was the best decision in the off-season. Dale Jarrett is not great but he is new at this TV thing and he should be better, well anyone is better than Rusty Wallace.

Unimpressive:

David Ragan: I know everyone in the mainstream NASCAR media wants this kid to do well. His dad works with Humpy Wheeler and he is one of those pretty boys who NASCAR loves but he just does look as he has the talent to win. His mistake Sunday cost Matt Kenseth a chance at the win, and Ragan seems to wreck almost every week.

Matt Kenseth: He had a great run and was taken out by his teammate; however I did not like one thing. When he crashed no one was there to be the calming voice, he was screaming on the radio. I heard a little bit of panic in the man who is always calm and cool. This may be the first of many incidents like this for the 17 team. It may be time for Kenseth to move on.

Juan Pablo Montoya: Once again he stuck his nose where he had no business sticking it. He took out a car leading the race at a time with out due cause. It’s just another reason why his head is bigger than his talent. Go home Juan, oh wait they kicked you over here because they could not stand your problem child mentality in F1 either.
