Impressive/Unimpressive: The Phoenix Rises

November 12, 2007

Joe Jacobs - SCR

Impressive:

Jimmie Johnson: What can you say, four wins in a row and now an 86 point lead with one race remaining in the season. Things could not be better for the No. 48 team. This time of year Johnson always seem to really turn it on. Now we wait, not for Johnson to win the title but for some reporter to ask him “will you make it easy on us and win at Homestead too?”

Tony Stewart: First top five in a long, long time. It has been a miserable Chase for the 20 team. The pit crew tried to throw it away Sunday so it may just be time for a house cleaning to be done.

Martin Truex Jr.: Another top ten for Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI’s) new start. This kid will have a lot of pressure on him next year, for his sake lets hope they get rid of the engine demons that have plagued them this season.

Clint Bowyer: If not for the magical Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson this kid would really be the story. He has done nothing wrong the whole Chase and has kept Gordon and Johnson with in reach and for that he should be commended.

Unimpressive:

TV: No this is not another jab at ESPN, but the ratings themselves. The ratings have gone down each race this season. Why? Well it could be Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans tired of watching him blow up or crash and they are a large number of viewers. It also could be people tired of the Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson show, but only time will tell what it is that drives viewers away.

Kasey Kahne: Probably the toughest year in his career, and today was not any better. His interview said it all “I am glad when it will be over.” I don’t know if Ray Evernham is going to put up with Kahne trashing his cars.

Car of Tomorrow (COT): I will be the first to admit I loved the Car of Tomorrow at the start of the year, but now as I have watched 16 races with it I really don’t like it. Yes Rusty Wallace we know its safe but it’s not an action car. Every car runs the same speed, every car is the same and that does not make good racing, the Trucks have the higher center of gravity and they put on great shows, but NASCAR I snow more like IROC than ever and where is IROC right now? With the COT, if one car hits the set-up then the rest of the field does not have a chance.
