Impressive/Unimpressive: The Monster Mile

September 24, 2007

Joe Jacobs - SCR

Impressive:

Carl Edwards: Concrete is his thing, and today he showed it, another win on concrete and he made a great leap in the points, but he needs more concrete tracks if he wants to win the cup.

Jeff Gordon: Finishing 11th Sunday was not great, but he did survive all while taking over the points lead. It’s getting down to the end and with the point lead now, Gordon is going to be tough to beat.

Jeff Burton: He had a bad week last week and Sunday looked just as miserable but it was about survival and Burton did that, finishing a respectable 7th. He could have saved his shot at winning the championship with his run at Dover.

Mark Martin: While only running a limited schedule and going through a merger this season. Martin had another top 10 finish Sunday, 4th. Martin might be old for this young crowd but he still has it at some places. Perhaps he can put that No. 8 car in victory lane next year.

Kyle Petty: I liked his attitude, he was crashed twice, one was an oblivious accident and one was just stupid. He showed that he cares about his team and how he runs. Put your finger in another guys face is fine by me. I hope Petty can turn this aggression in to some decent finishes.

Unimpressive:

Kurt Busch: Two weeks, two Chase races and two problems, neither was his fault but being 148 points behind with the caliber of drivers like Tony Stewart, Gordon and Jimmie Johnson the lights are not out but they are dimming fast.

Kevin Harvick: He seems to be on the same Titanic as Busch, two ships sinking. Two weeks in a row now Harvick has a problem, the big problem is time is running out and the runs have not been there for Harvick all summer.

Denny Hamlin: His own mistake Sunday could have caused him shot at a championship. I am like Kyle Petty, not sure what Hamlin was doing but he was not paying attention. He is still young but I did not expect him to drive like Kyle Busch or Juan Pablo Montoya.
