Nashville and ARCA an Exciting Combination

April 6, 2007

Everett Mugg - SCR

Starting with the first ARCA RE/MAX race, held April13, 2001, the tracks inaugural season, to last years, August 12, 2006, Nashville has proved to be an exciting venue. The wide concrete 1.33 mile D-oval with 14 degree banking allows for the action packed, side-by-side racing that race fans love.

Barring any late entries or withdrawals, 50 drivers will compete for the 41 starting spots. There will be four former Nashville ARCA winners in the field, Frank Kimmel (3), Mario Gosselin (2), Joey Miller (2), and Blake Feese (1), who among them account for 8 wins of the 12 ARCA races held at the track.  Along with the ARCA RE/MAX regulars the list includes numerous part-timers and development drivers. Those drivers include:

Phillip McGilton- Brewco Motorsports

Tim Andrews- Cunningham Motorsports

Scott Lagasse- Cunningham Motorsports

Bobby Santos III- Bills Davis Racing

Erin Crocker- Evernham Motorsports

Cale Gale- Kevin Harvick Motorsports

Josh Wise- Eddie Sharp Racing

Other notable non-regulars not already listed, include Steadman Marlin, Chad McCumbee, Jeremy Clements, and Richard Johns.

Ten Divers to Watch:

Frank Kimmel: Kimmel has led 442 laps in 10 of the 12 races at Nashville and has 3 wins. The 8-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion is a threat to win at any track he races on.

Mario Gosselin: Second only to Kimmel with 124 laps led in 3 races and 2 wins; Gosselin has this track figured out. In my opinion not only is Gosselin a superb driver, but he builds some of the best cars in ARCA. Considering that he is regularly competing with the top tier NASCAR teams and their development drivers with virtually unlimited funding and resources, it is quite a feat.

Bobby Santos III: If the last ARCA RE/MAX race at Lakeland Florida is any indication, Bill Davis Racing is serious about their development driver and team. Santos, a stock car rookie, qualified on the pole and dominated the first 124 laps until he wrecked. The former open wheeler will not have to worry about the beating and banging seen on a short track like at Lakeland, and he has already shown that he has good car control.

Joey Miller: Miller won his first career start at Nashville and his worst finish here in three starts is 2nd. The No. 32 team has been one of the most consistent teams in the series and is coming off a win at Lakeland with full time Hooters Pro Cup driver James Buescher.

Cale Gale: Gale has a win and a 6th place finish in two career ARCA starts. His 6th place finish came in his first start, April last year, at Nashville. Gale will have his Kevin Harvick Incorporated Busch team and crew this year, I like his chances.

SCR is looking for writers in all the series we cover, if interested email us at scr@stockcarreview.com to receive further information.

Michael McDowell: The 2003 Star Mazda Rookie of the Year (ROTY) and 2004 series Champion has dominated in every series he has raced in, both open wheel and stock car. In five ARCA RE/MAX Series starts last year he scored three top 10’s, two of them being top fives.

Billy Venturini:  The ARCA veteran has always been a force to be reckoned with, but this year he is showing a patience and maturity as a driver he has not shown in the past. Instead of forcing an issue he is waiting for the opening to come to him. This maturity as a driver bodes ill for his competitors.

Bobby Gerhart: If there are race cars’ driving around a track and Gerhart is driving one of them the odds are good he is going to win. The odds increase if his brother, Bill, built the car and is his crew chief. Gerhart especially excels on tracks over a mile in length.

Philip McGilton: Sitting third in the points after two races, McGilton is making the best of the opportunity Brewco Motorsports has given him. Brewco got their feet wet last year in ARCA with Brad Coleman and proved they could put cars on the track that were competitive every time they hit the ground. The ROTY battle this year, as hard as it is to believe, should be even better than last year’s.

Erin Crocker: Evernham Motorsports has given Crocker some fast cars in the past at Nashville and this race should be no different. She has finished 2nd and 3rd and is hungry for her first series win.

Qualifying for the Nashville ARCA 150 will begin approximately at 5:40 Friday April 6, and the race will be run Saturday at noon.
