Opened since 1996, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is considered by most, “a jewel in the sand.” The 1.5-mile tri-oval
shaped facility seats almost 150,000 spectators per event.
Although, the Las Vegas
Motor Speedway only hosted the Winston West and the Craftsman Trucks in their opening year of stock car racing, they now host
all three major series in NASCAR Racing. The Craftsman Truck, Busch and Nextel Cup Series have one date a piece on the schedule
for 2006 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
For a race track of its dimensions,
the Las Vegas Motor Speedway provides a wide racing groove along with its twelve degrees of banking. Ultimately it means that
you are sure to see plenty of side by side action on race day. The inaugural Las Vegas 400 was won by Mark Martin in 1998.
And in the eight Nextel Cup appearances, Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth are tied with the most victories at the Las Vegas Motor
Speedway with two.
Even with the short history of the Las Vegas Motor
Speedway, a grandstand was built and named after the legendary Dale Earnhardt. You can find the Dale Earnhardt Terrace and
a statue of “The Intimidator,” standing outside of turn four. The speedway is located just twelve miles north
of downtown Las Vegas.
