The Atlanta Motor Speedway is known for its high speeds and close quarters action. The 1.54-mile oval
of the Atlanta Motor Speedway will see well over 250,000 race fans per year. The layout of the speedway has banked corners
of 24 degrees with 5 degrees of banking on the straights.
Track owner, Bruton Smith bought the property in
1990 and has turned the Atlanta Motor Speedway into a world class facility.
The Atlanta Motor Speedway holds two Nextel Cup
dates per year currently and is one of the hottest NASCAR Tickets to have. Other racing organizations that visit the Atlanta Motor Speedway
at least once a year are the Busch, Craftsman Truck, ARCA Remax and the Legends Series. The speedway also host car shows and
racing schools as a part of its activities.
Close finishes are also a part of the Atlanta Motor
Speedway's long history. To win his first ever Nextel Cup race, Kevin Harvick barely held off a serious charge from Jeff Gordon
on the final lap to win at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2001. Another memorable finish at the Atlanta Motor Speedway took
place in March of 2005. As Jimmie Johnson was passed on the final turn of last lap by Carl Edwards and he too would win his
first career Nextel Cup event at the popular Atlanta Motor Speedway. The tri-oval shaped race track sits 25 miles directly
south of Atlanta in Hampton, Georgia.
