Earnhardt… Moving On?

January 8, 2007

Joe Jacobs - SCR

Could Dale Earnhardt Jr. be moving on from Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI) to another team?  It could happen, but it would help if he got his head back in to the racing game, and quit doing things like music videos with Jay- Z or radio shows on satellite radio. He was also in two movies last season, Cars and Talladega Nights.

He needs to either pick entertainment or racing.  You can do both for a while and have moderate success at both. But he cannot keep it up and have his mind completely on racing.

Where could Junior go? What team would he go to? Would he leave all contacts behind?  In my opinion if he wants to get a fresh start and a true chance at a championship he needs to leave everything behind and move on.

The obvious choice one would think would be Richard Childress Racing (RCR). They have gone as far to say that if Earnhardt wants the #3 car he can have it.

That in itself is could be a big incentive for Earnhardt. But in addition to getting his head back into the game, he also needs to step out of his father’s shadow and show people he can be the MAN in NASCAR. So would RCR be the best choice to get out of his daddy’s shadow?

That would be the one place he could go and in all likely hood be competitive. But is RCR ready to add another team? They have just got their current teams back on track.

In the end I am sure there are many other teams willing to pony up the money that would be needed to sign the biggest free agent in NASCAR history.

In the end though NASCAR would probably interfere to make sure that Earnhardt stays at DEI, because with out Jr. there is no DEI.  Without DEI there is not a connection to the legacy and the merchandise that keeps many of the old fans coming back to the racetrack and buying that all important DEI merchandise.

But more than likely though Earnhardt will remain at DEI and continue to have moderate success. But he could still make movies, music videos, host radio shows and make television appearances while racing for only a top 10 to 15 finish on Sunday afternoon.

If he wants to become a great champion, he has the potential, he has the talent, but does he have the will and the concentration and dedication.   .
