Quick Chat with Shane Huffman

October 24, 2006

Kevin Carver - SCR

While Shane Huffman does drive for Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Jr. Motorsports, Huffman was allowed to jump behind the wheel for the No. 40 entry of Key Motorsports this past weekend at Martinsville. Shane actually qualified 24th for the event on Friday, but the motor broke at lap 90 and thus he ended up 35th. He was running 16th before he had the problem. However, SCR caught up with Huffman before he set sail in the Kroger 200 and here is what he had to say.

SCR: How did the opportunity with Key Motorsports come about?

Huffman: Barry Dodson and Curtis Key basically called me up and we put a quick deal together. Obviously, I had to get permission from Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Navy and I appreciate them for for allowing me to do this. It's going to benefit Junior and Navy and hopefully I can help Barry and Curtis as they have been good to work with this weekend. Who knows? Maybe, we can get to do this type thing again some more.

SCR: What are your thoughts on Martinsville?

Huffman: It's been a while since I have been here, but it's still the same. It really hasn't changed much. Track position is always key and just staying out of trouble all day would be nice Saturday.

SCR: How do you feel about leaving the Hooters Pro Cup Series?

Huffman: It was tough since we were contending for a championship there. We were probably one of the few teams that could have gave Clay a run for their money. Clay and those guys have been good all year long and it looks like they have gotten that deal under control for right now.

SCR: Any Nextel Cup plans in a couple of races for 2006?

Huffman: No, we don't have that in our plans right now. Our main focus is to get the No.88 Navy Chevy Monte Carlo up front and to do that on a consistent basis.

SCR: What advice do you have for kids or drivers that have been racing for a years trying to make it into the sport?

Huffman: It's a tough sport. It will knock you down, but you have to keep a positive attitude all the time and just work hard. It took a while for me, but it's paid off. Just simply don't give up.
