As NASCAR has the final word
on that sort of situation I have no problem with Bodine being sent to the back of the line. Maybe like the Canadian said in
the movie “Slap Shot” he should have felt shame. Who knows, after all the back of the longest line is not unlike
the penalty box in hockey. We all saw it happen; we all know he went below the yellow line. Did he indeed need to be
sent back to the end of the longest line? Probably!
What interested me most about
the whole incident was Michael Waltrip’s reaction. He seemed both gleeful and excited that Bodine was to be chastised
for his transgressions because of the move. He must be a real diehard Mark Martin fan. It can’t be because he is a Ford
fan, after all he will be racing Toyotas next year and his brother Darrell has fielded Toyota trucks. Or is he just a diehard Bodine anti-fan? He just wouldn’t
let it go. He blathered on and on and on seemingly almost foaming at the mouth. I suspect if he had had his way
they would not only have sent Bodine to the end of the longest line but stopped the race long enough to have Bodine flogged
at the start finish line.
As most everybody knows I am
a fan of Todd Bodine but also for Mark Martin who I believe he is one of the best most courteous drivers in any of the venues
he runs in. We could easily see that at Talladega Saturday when he moved back
up the track when he realized that Bodine had the run on him.
Mikey seemed to be singularly
quiet when the No. 30 Toyota charged from the back of the pack to finish 4th. I wonder if there is some problem between
the Waltrip clan and the Bodine brothers.
