passed Jason Leffler with less than 25 laps to go and then extended his lead to about 4 seconds over David Reutimann on his

he may have a flat late in the race. Finishing the spot ahead of Edwards in third was Dave Blaney followed by Leffler in fourth

Gale Dominates, McCumbee Wins
ARCA RE/MAX Series News
Lebanon, TN
– Cale Gale started on the pole Saturday at the Nashville Superspeedway and had the dominate car for most of the Nashville
ARCA 150, but after a late caution Gale could not hang on for the win. Gale who was leading after at the caution looked
as if he may have missed a shift on the restart which gave an opening to Chad McCumbee to make the pass on Gale and take the
win. Gale ended up second followed by Erin Crocker in third. The No. 13 of Scott Lagasse finished fourth and Chad Blount rounded
out the top five.
Positions six through 10 went
to Tim Andrews, Justin South, Marc Mitchell, the last car on the lead lap, Dexter Bean and eight time series champion Frank
Kimmel rounded out the top 10. SCR

James Hylton to Receive Award
Track News
Pocono, PA.—James Hylton, a
name associated with major league stock car racing for more than five decades as a driver, crew chief and car owner, has been
named the 2007 recipient of Pocono Raceway’s Bill France Award of Excellence. The Pocono Raceway Bill France Award of Excellence
has been presented annually to the person, corporation or organization that has made outstanding contributions to the sport
of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Racing. This prestigious award, first presented in 1977, is dedicated to the inspiration of Bill
France Sr., founder of NASCAR.
Hylton’s racing career began
as a mechanic for the legendary Rex White and teamed with White to win 26 races and in 1960 won the NASCAR Grand National
(now called the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series) championship. In 1964 Hylton became crew chief for Ned Jarrett and teamed with Jarrett
to win 15 races in 1964 and in 1965 he won 13 races and the NASCAR championship.
On July 8, 1964, Hylton
made his first NASCAR start at the Old Dominion 400 at Manassas, VA.
In 1966 Hylton finished second in the points chase and won the coveted NASCAR Rookie of the Year Award. He again finished
second in points in 1967 and amassed an astonishing 46 top five finishes in 87 races in 1966-67.
In 1968 he became a car owner
/ driver and found his way to victory lane for the first time on March 1, 1970
at the Richmond 500. His second victory came on August 6, 1972 when he captured
the Talladega 500. He continued driving the full schedule until 1982 when he gave up driving to concentrate on his car owner
duties. He continued as a NASCAR car owner until 1993. He competed as a driver in 601 NASCAR events and compiled two wins,
140 top fives and 301 top tens.
In the late nineties he moved
to the ARCA series where he continues to participate as both a car owner and driver. He made national headlines in February
2007 as he became the oldest driver (age 72) to try to qualify for the prestigious Daytona 500. Unfortunately his effort came
up short.
“James Hylton and his
# 48 stock car were fixtures on the NASCAR scene and he competed successfully against better funded teams. His grit and determination
are an inspiration to all who know him,” stated Pocono Raceway C.E.O Dr. Joseph Mattioli. “We are proud to announce that James
Hylton has been named the recipient of Pocono Raceway’s 2007 Bill France Award of Excellence,” concluded Dr. Mattioli.
“Pocono is a wonderful place
to race,” states Hylton. “The Mattioli’s stand alone in their hospitality shown to the drivers and teams. Pocono is an absolute
winner,” states Hylton “and it has the fan base to prove it.” “I am proud to be the recipient of this prestigious award” concluded
Hylton.
The Pocono Raceway Bill France
Award of Excellence, a beautifully sculptured and highly polished piece of anthracite coal mined in Pennsylvania,
will be presented to James Hylton at an award ceremony on Saturday, June 9, 2007.
This ceremony is part of the festivities leading up to the June 10, 2007
POCONO 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event at Pocono Raceway.

Rudd to be Inducted Into Virginia Sports Hall
Nextel Cup News - Source: Scene Daily
Ricky Rudd will be inducted
into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame during an April 28 ceremony in Portsmouth, Va.
The hall of fame annually inducts
Virginia natives who have made a lasting contribution to Virginia
and national sports.
"It's an awful big honor to
be able to be inducted and [I'm] really looking forward to it and [it's] something I hold in high regard," Rudd said.
Rudd, a Chesapeake
native, has won 23 races in his NASCAR career and ranks among the top 50 NASCAR drivers of all time.
Fellow Virginian Elliott Sadler
said that drivers in Virginia grow up looking up to Rudd, so it's a natural
fit that he would earn the honor.
"I think it's great," Sadler
said. "I think growing up in Virginia as a race car driver we all looked up to people like Ricky Rudd and Ward Burton and
Jeff Burton and Curtis Turner and the Wood brothers and people from this area, Junie Donlavey, people like that, that have
been a part of this sport a long time and have sunk a lot of their time and money into it, and coming from this state it means
a lot to me.
"So congratulations to Ricky. He's still going strong and still a great competitor and a great guy. You know, he's
led the way for a lot of us coming through this area, coming from Virginia.
We've got a lot of good owners and drivers and crew members and stuff that come from Virginia."

Lasoski Wins at Paducah
DIRT Motorsports WoO Sprint Series News
Mother Nature tried her
best to stop Danny Lasoski and the rest of the World of Outlaws on Friday night at Paducah International Raceway, but could
not. Despite temperatures well below the freezing mark, and a stiff wind, a very hearty crowd was on hand to see Lasoski,
the 2001 World of Outlaws Champion pick up his first A-Feature win of the season.
Starting in the 15th
spot on the high-banked 3/8-mile, Lasoski methodically worked his way to the front. He gained four spots on the opening lap,
and by the halfway point of the 35-lap event, he broke into the Top-Five. He made the pass for the win on the 33rd lap, as
he charged to the low side of Joey Saldana to pick up the $10,000 winner's check. The pair raced side by side for several
laps with each inching ahead, but each time at the line it was Saldana being officially scored the leader. With Saldana using
the high side of the track, the bottom groove was just the opening that Lasoski needed.
Saldana led from the
outset of the race, and built several large advantages that were negated each time by cautions. After a lap 26 yellow flag,
Lasoski lined up right behind Saldana, and when the current series point leader made contact with the turn four wall with
less than five laps to go, Lasoski was there to pounce on the top spot.
"This is a whole credit
to my team," said Lasoski, driver of the Roth Motorsports Eagle. "We got punted on the first lap of the heat race and that
put us in the infield and kept us from getting to first or second in the heat race. Everyone knows how important that is.
My guys never gave up. They said, lets work on this race car and see how good we can get it. I have to thank Dennis Roth for
letting me race this car, and all these guys that are
supporting me in the
pit area."
Lasoski kept his car
glued to the bottom of the track for most of the race. He now holds the mark of having won from the farthest back of any of
the seven drivers that have picked up World of Outlaws A-Feature triumphs this season. He also became the third winner in
just as many events at Paducah.
"The late caution was
good, because Joey (Saldana) was really pulling away," Lasoski said. "I started 15th and I couldn't even see him. All in all
we are happy to get the first under our belt. It's a boost for our team."
Saldana, the current
series points leader, was looking for his fourth straight win. After an aborted start, he shot to the lead over outside front
row starter Danny Smith. He set a torrid pace and was in lapped traffic only a couple circuits into the 35-lap event. Durring
his stint at the head of the field, he lapped up to the 17th-place finisher. For the native of Brownsburg,
Indiana, it was his 11th Top-10 finish of the season, as he continues to lead the series
championship points. He began the night by turning the fourth fastest lap in time trials, thus garnering two bonus points.
"We had a really good
car all night," said Saldana, driver of the Open Joist Mopar-powered JEI. "We went out third from the end (in time trials)
and were fourth quick, and we won our heat. We were really good in the dash. In the feature, we were really good, and with
about two or three laps to go, it wouldn't pick the throttle up. I got in the fence coming off turns three and four. That
killed a lot of my momentum. Everytime I tried to pick up some momentum, I would get tighter and tighter. If we would have
had one more lap, we probably would not have finished, so we were glad to finish."
Chad Kemenah picked up
his best finish of the season, as he charged from the 11th starting spot to come home third. He gained two spots on the opening
lap of the race, and found himself in the Top-Five on the 26th circuit. He began the night with the sixth fastest lap in time
trials, and followed that up with a solid finish in the second heat to earn a spot in the A-Feature.
"It feels so good to
race competitively, instead of just going out and taking up space," said Kemenah, driver of the Maxim Chassis/Hampshire Racing
Engine machine. "We haven't been off to a good start this year at all. We built this new team so fast, and have spent the
last few weeks getting organized. I'm just really really happy."
In just his fifth race
driving his own car, Kemenah picked up his first Top-Five of the season. While he made the passes on the track, he was quick
to credit his team and those people that have stuck with him through a very trying early portion of the season. With the next
three events in his home state of Ohio, the native of Findlay is confident the team has things going in the right direction.
"With the season we have
been having, to go out and run in the Top-10, we would have been tickled to death," said the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie
of the Year. "I have to really thank my father-in-law and wife. We have been through quite a bit. I have to thank Pete Grove
as well. Even though we separated, he let me use his truck and trailer to make sure we got to these races. Most of all, I
have to thank Chuck Merrill from Maxim Chassis. If it wasn't for Chuck and Maxim, we probably wouldn't be here period. I have
so many people from around home to thank."
Jason Martin picked up
a season best finish of fourth on Friday night. After turning the seventh fastest lap in time trials, he finished second in
the third heat to earn a spot in the dash. He came home a very solid fourth in the dash to earn that same starting spot in
the A-Feature. He powered his way into the third spot on the opening lap, and ran there for th |
