Ragan Pays to Ride With Stewart

Nextel Cup News

Tony Stewart said that when he heard David Ragan had paid $5,750 to ride along with him during Sunday’s parade lap, he laughed out loud.

“I think it’s hilarious; it’s great,” Stewart said. “He could have saved a little money by just picking up the phone and calling me, but at least it’s for a good cause.”

Ragan won the ride during Thursday night’s Speedway Children’s Charities auction, which benefited both the Speedway Children’s Charity and the Ryan Newman Foundation. SCR

NASCAR Limits Roush's No. 06 to One More Race

Nextel Cup News - Source: Scene Daily

Roush Racing can only enter the No. 06 in one more Nextel Cup race this year because of the team limitations imposed by NASCAR, team president Geoff Smith confirmed Saturday.

Roush already has its fifth full-time team grandfathered in on the four-team NASCAR Cup limit. Teams are also allowed to enter an extra team for a rookie to get ready for next season.

Smith said Roush Racing interpreted that limitation to mean seven races with any rookie, but NASCAR informed the team at Martinsville last week that it could run only one more race - the eighth Nextel Cup attempt overall for the No. 06 car this year.

The No. 06 has attempted to run six events (including one where the team failed to qualify) with Todd Kluever and two with David Ragan.

That final race for the No. 06 will be Phoenix with Kluever at the wheel. Smith said it is the team's plan to run Ragan in whatever races he is eligible for the rest of the year in the No. 60 No Fear Racing car, which has an affiliation with Roush.

Ragan originally was supposed to drive the No. 06 car at Atlanta this weekend. When Roush Racing found out last week it could only run that car one more time this year, it withdrew the car and planned to have No Fear enter Ragan in the No. 60. Before it could get the new entry filed, NASCAR ruled that Ragan was not approved to run the 1.5-mile Atlanta track in the Cup race because of struggles at Martinsville Speedway last Sunday.

Smith said the team is fine with the limitation imposed.

"There was a little bit of misinterpretation on our part in regards to what the rule was in the 06," Smith said. "Our translation was the 06 could run seven times with a rookie. We didn't think there was a limit on the rookies that could run in the car.

"It's not a problem."

Walker to Pilot BDR Truck in '07

Craftsman Truck Series News

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Bill Davis Racing is pleased to announce that Tyler Walker will be behind the wheel of the 360 OTC No. 36 Toyota Tundra during the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series campaign.

Walker, a Sprint Car standout, has already experienced a successful transition into NASCAR.  He competed in three Craftsman Truck Series events in 2003 and 19 NASCAR Busch Series races during the ‘04 and ‘05 seasons.  The Los Angeles native finished 12th in his third Busch Series outing accumulated seven top-20 finishes in that series.  Walker will join an organization that has won seven races and posted 41 top-five finishes and 66 top-10 finishes in only three years in the Craftsman Truck Series.

“I can’t wait to get started,” Walker said.  “I’ve waited for an opportunity like this for a long time, and I plan to make the most of it.  I know that chances like this don’t come along every day, and I feel really lucky to be involved with BDR and have backing from 360 OTC.  Bill Davis’ entire organization is top-notch, and the Bill Davis Racing NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series program is, in my opinion, the best one out there. With trucks from BDR, and teammates like Johnny Benson and Mike Skinner and 360 OTC behind me, I can’t imagine how I would ever have a better shot at success in NASCAR.”

“We are really excited about Tyler joining our team,” commented Team Owner and BDR President Bill Davis.  “He has really shown me that he has talent, and I think the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is a perfect place for him to showcase his abilities.  With the help of Toyota , we have really built a dominant program here, and I think Tyler will be the perfect addition to our team.”

It was also announced today that Johnny Benson will continue to drive for Bill Davis Racing in 2007 and will carry the 360 OTC colors in 10 races.  Benson has garnered four wins, 12 top-five finishes, and 16 top-10 finishes thus far in 2006, as he continues to battle for the Craftsman Truck Series Championship.  Benson and Walker, along with Jeremy Mayfield, who will drive a BDR entry in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series in 2007, will make up Team Green for Bill Davis Racing.
