It’s All Yates at Talladega

Nextel Cup News

Rookie David Gilliland won his first career pole Saturday afternoon at the Talladega Superspeedway. Gilliland posted a speed of 191.712 mph to edge out his Robert Yates Racing (RYR) teammate Dale Jarrett for the pole for Sunday’s UAW-Ford 500. The two RYR cars took the top two spots after NASCAR announced Saturday morning that all teams would use a smaller restrictor plate for Sunday’s race.

Rolling off third Sunday will be Jimmie Johnson, followed by his Hendrick Racing teammate Jeff Gordon in fourth. Greg Biffle rounded out the top five. SCR
