Dale Earnhardt Jr. bumped Carl
Edwards and sent him spinning on a green-white-checker restart that froze the field and gave Earnhardt the win in the Carfax
250 at the Michigan Int. Speedway.
On the restart at lap 127 Edwards
took the green flag for the two lap shootout when Earnhardt did a bump-and –run that sent Edwards spinning and Earnhardt to
the win. Casey Mears who avoided the turn two crash as well as Robby Gordon finished second and third. Matt Kenseth and pole
sitter Mark Martin rounded out the top five.
Asked after the race about
the incident Edwards said "He just wrecked me off [Turn] 2, I just wanted to make sure he knew I was mad that he wrecked me.
It's racing."
"I didn't mean to spin him
out. I don't go around wrecking people," Earnhardt said. "I wouldn't have waited two years to get back at him for wrecking
me in Atlanta
in 2004 pretty much the same way.
"We got a run off that corner,
and Carl just got sideways and he wasn't in the gas. I guess he was pretty mad at me, but there wasn't much I could do."
The rest of the top ten also
went to Nextel Cup regulars. Denny Hamlin finished sixth, Reed Sorenson seventh and Kevin Harvick, J.J.Yeley and Jeff Burton
rounded out the top 10. Jason Leffler, who finished 13th was the highest finishing non Nextel Cup regular.
Earnhardt heard something after
the race that the most popular driver does not hear often, boos. The boos were for him wrecking Edwards, Edwards finished
23rd. SCR
