Martin's Point Plan

Nextel Cup News - Source: Winston-Salem Journal

Mark Martin has a simple suggestion for NASCAR's Brian France when he reconsiders the championship points system for 2007: Put the 10 drivers in the chase on a separate points system from everyone else for those final 10 races. And score them 10 points for the top-finishing chaser, nine points for the next one, eight for the next, and so on.

Burton to MWR?

Nextel Cup News - Source:Winston-Salem Journal

Michael Waltrip's on-track performance this season has been dismal, and he said it hurts deeply. But his work in the corporate boardrooms has been amazing.

Yesterday Waltrip said that all those Dale Jarrett TV ads for UPS aren't destined for the scrap heap, because the $36 billion package-delivery company will be following Jarrett to Waltrip's Toyota team next season, after six years with Ford's Robert Yates.

"Is it a coup for our team? I guess it's fair to say it is," Waltrip said of the new two-year UPS sponsorship, which he said now sets the stage for a three-car, Nextel Cup operation.

"We don't have it done yet, but we think we'll be able to announce in the next week or two who the driver will be," Waltrip said of Team Three, which will be jointly sponsored by Burger King and Pizza Hut.

And it could very well be Ward Burton, the 2002 Daytona 500 winner, idle this season, Waltrip said.

Coleman Captures Career Win No. 1

ARCA Re/Max Series News

Sparta KY - Rookie Brad Coleman came from two laps down and held off seven time ARCA Re/Max Series Champion Frank Kimmel in a one lap green and white to the checkers shootout to win the WLWT Channel 5 150 at the Kentucky Speedway.

Coleman was coming to the checkers after a late restart when the caution flew to set up the one lap shootout with Kimmel. Kimmel finished second followed by Jeremy Clements in third. Rounding out the top five were Chuck Weber and Damon Lusk.

The win was the first for Coleman in the ARCA Re/Max Series after two second place finishes. It was also his fifth top five in six career starts in the series. SCR
